Finding Inspiration and Healing Through Reflection
An Interview with Joy on Life Made Easier Podcast
We often encounter people who light a spark within us. Individuals whose presence and words make us pause, reflect, and aspire to be better. Over a year ago, I had the privilege of speaking with such a person: Joy, the founder and CEO of Be the Difference Clothing and the author of five transformative books, Self-Reflection and Quotes That Make You Reflect.
A Journey of Inspiration and Purpose
Joy’s journey began with a simple act of sharing her struggles on social media. Her first shirt, “Work Hard Snack Harder,” was born from her own awareness of habits she wanted to change. From there, her mission expanded into creating clothing and messages that spark conversations about transformation, addiction, and healing.
One pivotal moment that shaped her vision was witnessing a person under the influence, swaying backwards in a way she’d never seen before. It prompted her to reflect on how many factors—trauma, circumstances, unseen struggles—lead to addiction. She realized that addiction isn’t always about choice; sometimes, it’s about circumstances beyond control.
This insight inspired her to design a powerful message: “Addiction Kills the Family.” The design features the word “Kills” in red, symbolizing blood, and “Family” in white, representing love and hope. The tearing, ripping effect visually depicts how addiction can tear families apart. Joy aims to foster awareness and compassion, challenging us to see beyond judgment and understand the deeper pain behind addictive behaviors.
The Power of Reflection and Self-Awareness
In addition to her clothing line, Joy authored five books filled with quotes that encourage deep reflection and personal growth. She is currently working on the sixth book offering Self Reflections and Quotes That Make You pause, look for all the treasure troves of wisdom. These short, impactful statements invite us to pause and consider our inner truths.
One quote I love is: “Adjustments are so much easier when you simply adjust.” It reminds us that life is about adapting, not resisting change. Another favorite is: “When you accept the norm as such, you become it,” urging us to question societal standards and forge our authentic, divinely led path, each one of us is here to fulfill. There are no accidents in the creation of a human life.
Joy emphasizes that our greatest lessons often come from pain and hardship. Her quote, “Your biggest pain became your inspiration apart from who you truly are. There is no need for justification,” encapsulates how our struggles can transform into our greatest sources of strength and purpose. “Live Made Easier” when “Living from the Inside Out”.
Reflecting on Humanity and Healing
Our conversation also touched on broader issues addiction, trauma, societal norms, and the importance of compassion. Joy highlights that many behaviors we judge are rooted in unseen wounds. She advocates for understanding and supporting healing rather than condemnation.
She shared her vision of a world where we examine the “norms” we accept and challenge dysfunctions that hinder growth. She believes each of us has hidden gems, our purpose, potential, and unique contributions, that need uncovering. The message is clear: “We have the power to inspire change, starting from within”.
Embracing Faith and Trust
One recurring theme we both share is the importance of trusting in a higher guidance. I spoke about letting go of excessive control and allowing faith to lead us, trusting that our wings will grow stronger as we step into the unknown. I know with unwavering belief, summarized beautifully: “When you have guidance and trust, you don’t fall; you fly.” This mindset encourages us to take leaps, embrace change, and believe in our capacity to soar.
Wings to Fly: Embracing Inner Strength and Purpose
Life is a journey of continual growth, reflection, and transformation. Sometimes, all it takes is a shift in perspective—like putting on wings that lift us higher and give us the confidence to soar through life’s challenges.
Recently, I had a profound realization: when we truly embrace our inner wings, life becomes more manageable, and our confidence grows exponentially. With stronger wings, we’re less susceptible to being shaken by external chaos. We become resilient, grounded in purpose, and better equipped to navigate the ups and downs. Every quote, every insight, can be tied back to this core truth—that our inner strength and clarity determine how high we can fly.
The Power of Support and Divine Guidance
It’s incredible how everything connects. I’ve been reflecting on the many years spent filled with personal growth and challenges. During this period, I realized that life truly begins to change when we put on those metaphorical wings—the ones that come from faith, inner honesty, and self-awareness. When our wings strengthen, we gain more confidence. We stop allowing negativity or system-shaking events to destabilize us because we understand their purpose.
Facing Struggles with Courage
Life isn’t without struggles, nor was it meant to be. Understanding those hard times will come. But with our wings, we can face them with clarity. Sometimes, the only way out is to get up, dust ourselves off, and keep moving. I’ve been reminded that when life gets tough, the message from my inner voice is clear: “Get the hell up, Lesley.” “You can sleep when you are dead.” That’s what inner guidance sounds like, and building the resilience looks like.
I’ve experienced countless times when I just wanted to stay in bed for days. But eventually, Divine intervenes, whispering while handing me my wings: “You can sleep when you’re dead, so get up and keep going.” It’s about showing up for yourself, even when it’s hard. Because every action we take leaves a mark, and what we do today shapes the future.
Self-Expression and Living Authentically
Supporting others and supporting ourselves is vital. I firmly believe that when we act from integrity, living our truth with honesty, we create a ripple effect. One of my favorite quotes is: “Nothing great stands the test of time like honesty and integrity.” That’s why I wanted it on a shirt. When we live authentically, we’re free from the bondage of pretenses.
Living honestly doesn’t mean perfection; it means being real with ourselves. Accepting we are all “Perfectly Imperfect.” When we’re honest about how we feel, whether it’s a good day or a bad one, we release burdens. That moment of truth is freeing. It’s a glimpse of the internal free will that we came into this world with and which we build upon through transparency.
The Role of Purpose and Inner Alignment
Everyone has a purpose, a unique reason for being here. Sometimes, life tries to distract us with chaos or superficial pursuits, but our purpose remains. It’s like a compass guiding us back when we stray. If you have a pulse, you have a purpose! Realize the outer world does not define you; it gives opportunities to define ourselves.
I often reflect on how I can uncover and align with a variety of ways to teach others how to discover their true purpose. It begins with listening to your inner voice, connecting to the higher divinity within yourself. Recognizing that your purpose never truly leaves you; it always waits patiently to be rediscovered. When we embrace our authentic selves, we find clarity in the guidance being given and strength to move forward. Our true purpose can and will only be found within, fulfilled only when we follow our inner knowing. This is being divinely led.
Trusting Divine Timing and Guidance
One of the most powerful insights I’ve had is about trusting divine timing. Sometimes, we rush or resist change because we’re eager to control everything. But life teaches us patience. When we surrender and ask for divine guidance, “Help me see what I need to see,” we open ourselves to receiving what’s truly meant for us.
I believe that support and love come when we’re open and vulnerable. Just as two or more gather in love and honesty, our connection with the divine deepens. Life becomes easier when we trust that everything is working in our favor, even the setbacks are part of a greater plan.
Living with Purpose and Positivity
In a world full of distractions, it’s vital to focus on what we can control: our thoughts, actions, and intentions. I’ve learned that supporting others, regardless of how much they support us in return, enriches our lives. Giving without expectation creates a cycle of blessings.
And when we show up for ourselves, whether by being honest, staying true to our morals, or simply taking care of our soul, we strengthen our wings. That inner resilience allows us to fly higher, even amidst storms.
A Message to Remember
As I reflect on everything, I’m reminded that the best weapon we have is the mirror, looking within ourselves. When we look inward and embrace honesty, integrity, and purpose, we unlock our true power.
So, I leave you with these final small messages: Don’t be so distracted by people who don’t want to be distracted by you. Focus on your growth, your purpose, and your divine guidance. Your wings are already within you, it’s time to spread them and fly.
Embracing Life’s Gift: Reflections, Resilience, and the Power of Love
Life is a precious gift – Something we often take for granted until we’re reminded of its incredible value. Recently, I’ve been reflecting deeply on the significance of appreciating each moment, recognizing our worth, and understanding that every experience is part of our divine purpose.
As a Blessing to Be Celebrated – How much more living do we need before we realize that life itself is a gift? It’s truly fortunate when we recognize how much of a blessing we are simply by being here, whether we’re healthy, sound in mind, or able to experience love and connection. Many infants, toddlers, and teenagers don’t get to reach these milestones, and yet, so many of us have the privilege of experiencing life’s full spectrum.
No matter our circumstances, whether born into wealth or poverty, each of us arrives exactly where we’re supposed to be. Our unique situations serve a purpose, allowing us to alchemize what is not serving us and shape into the individuals we’re destined to become. It’s all part of a divine plan.
The Inner Fight: Giving Up or Pushing Through?
When faced with challenges, it’s tempting to want to give up to surrender, and let life’s difficulties take over. I know this firsthand all too well. But the truth is, giving up doesn’t make problems disappear; it only prolongs the pain. The key is to keep pushing forward. So, take the wings you are being handed, get up.
A powerful reminder is: “Do you think giving up will make it all go away? Nope. Just keep healing forward by looking forward to what you wish to create in life and follow the inner divine guidance.” That resilience, that refusal to quit, is what transforms struggles into God given blessings.
The Power of Self-Love and Authenticity
Many of us settle for relationships that don’t ignite our souls, simply because we’re afraid of being alone. But true fulfillment comes from being with someone who makes your heart and spirit come alive—someone who’s your forever. Someone who, when you think about them, sets your heart on fire! It is an eternal fire felt in your soul.
As I reflect on this, I realize that staying in a relationship just because “it’s better than being alone” is a disservice to ourselves. We all deserve to be with someone who truly sees, values, and ignites our inner fire.
You Are the Change You Deserve
One of the most empowering truths I’ve come to understand is: “We all deserve to be what the difference looks like.” That means we’re worthy of becoming that version of ourselves—confident, loving, and authentic. This is what creates a positive impact on the world.
Many societies’ issues stem from unresolved childhood traumas. We carry those wounds into adulthood, often blaming our circumstances or upbringing. But here’s the truth: Our purpose is to transform those challenges into opportunities for growth and healing. Our pain isn’t meant to define us; it’s meant to refine us.
Healing Through Purpose and Divine Guidance
When God hit the reset button in my life at age 40, I realized that healing begins with understanding that our childhood experiences, no matter how painful, are part of our divine blueprint. We come into this world with lessons to learn what some call “original sin,” and our role is to live authentically, forgive ourselves and others, and purposefully change what we can.
Instead of carrying the weight of old wounds, I encourage you to see those moments as opportunities to grow. Make peace with your past and use it as a foundation for building a better future. Our purpose isn’t to dwell on what’s wrong but to actively create what’s right.
The Power of Forgiveness and Flow
One of the most freeing decisions I made was to stop resisting life’s flow. I learned to flow downstream, embracing forgiveness and trusting divine timing. This shift in mindset transformed my outlook. I no longer fight against the current but ride it with faith in grace and gratitude.
Forgiveness isn’t about condoning hurtful actions; it’s about freeing ourselves from the chains of resentment. We all deserve forgiveness from ourselves and others. And remember: “You don’t have to let people back into your life until they come correct.” Boundaries are a sign of self-respect, but compassion and forgiveness are keys to inner peace.
Supporting Others and Supporting Ourselves”
Supporting others, even when they don’t support us in return, is a reflection of our true strength. Giving without expectation enriches our spirit and creates a cycle of blessings. As I now often say, “If you stop supporting people based on the level of their support, they’d be a lot less blessed.” Thank you, Joy.
The real gift is in the act of giving, whether it’s kindness, encouragement, or love, because we’re planting seeds of positivity that will bloom in due time.
Living with Purpose and Passion
Life isn’t meant to be a passive experience. It’s about actively living your truth, pursuing your passions, and making a difference. Whether it’s in your relationships, your career, or your community, your purpose is always calling.
For Joy, supporting children and youth, like NFL players engaging with summer camps, is a way to give back and create a lasting impact. Every opportunity we seize to uplift others is a reflection of our divine purpose.
A Final Message of Love
If Joy has shared one thing with the world, it is this: “You are loved. Never give up. Never quit.” Regardless of what life throws at you, remember that your worth is infinite, and your capacity to love and be loved is what makes this world beautiful.
“We are all walking miracles, and our journey is uniquely ours. Embrace it, heal from it, and continue to shine your light.”
Final Thoughts
Joy’s story and work remind us that reflection, compassion, and authenticity are vital tools for personal and collective healing. Her clothing line and books are more than products, they’re catalysts for awareness, growth, and kindness.
I encourage you to explore her messages, reflect on your journey, and consider how you can make a difference in your life and community. Remember, every small step toward understanding and compassion creates ripples of positive change. Until next time!
